Guarnaschelli began her culinary career through watching the mother of her, who was editing cookbooks at the time, test many recipes. She interned under Larry Forgione and then at various restaurants in New York France and Los Angeles including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Guarnaschelli eventually became the head chef at Butter. Guarnaschelli was a competitor against Cat Cora on Food Network's Iron Chef America 2007 Farmers Market Battle. In addition to her role as a Judge on the show the show in 2011, Guarnaschelli took part in the Next Iron Chef's fourth season in which she came third. In addition, she competed in The Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode, but lost the contest.
